The biochemistry department was founded by Dr. Ali Fazel, who had a doctorate in pharmacy, and had started his career with the academic degree of faculty instructor. He was very interested in biochemistry and studied many studies in this field, especially different methods of electrophoresis, and made and used all the necessary tools and instruments in this method, which is divided into different types, and because of the extraordinary services that In this section, the president of the university promoted him to the rank of assistant professor.

Later, the group was divided into two halves and this section was managed as a biochemistry and biophysics group with the group manager Dr. Mohammad Hossein Bahreini and later Dr. Mohammad Taghi Bahreini Tusi. In 1990, Dr. Seyed Mohammad Reza Prizadeh with the degree of instructor and graduate of Biochemistry, University of Tehran with a master's degree was added to the faculty of the group and in 2000 with a doctorate degree was promoted to assistant professor. At the end of 1994 and 1995, his retired in honor.

Dr. Sokhtanloo and Dr. Hashemi were added to the faculty in 2008. In 2009, 2010 and 2015, Dr. Zahedi, Dr. Meshkani and Dr. Hassanian joined the group.

At present, the members of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry are in charge of teaching all theoretical and practical biochemistry units for the faculties of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Master's and doctoral courses in clinical biochemistry have been established since 2006 and 2014. In addition, the faculty members are in charge of supervising and technical responsibility of the laboratories of Imam Reza (AS) and Ghaem (AS) hospitals.
